Whittington
Still
THE
ROCK: First of all, where did you get
the name Whittington Still?
STILL: Well, the name Whittington
Still is borrowed
from both my mother and my Grandmother. Whittington
is
my mother’s maiden name. Still is my Grandmother’s
maiden name. These two women are exceptionally
significant to me. My mother passed when I was just
seven years of age. There is not one day that goes by
that I don’t entertain the idea of my mother and
what
she would be like today. My Grandmother was the most
loving and selfless woman I have ever known. She
passed away a few years after my mother, but her
memory lives on in me. I’m proud to be a part
of the
historical Still family that has lived in Lawnside,
New
Jersey since the early 1600’s... known for their
many accomplishments and involvement with the Underground
Railroad.
The
Stills are descendants of a Guinean Prince and his clan,
who intermarried into the Lanape Indian nation being
recognized as an “American First Family.”
I like to think of the Still name as…
Strong Teachers Illustrating Life Lovingly.
It
did not take me long before realizing that I needed
a stage name and I knew that I somehow wanted to
incorporate both my mother and my grandmother
publicly. I remember sitting at my kitchen island in
California at the time, and thinking of how I could
do
just that. Suddenly, the two names came to me…’Whittington’
and ‘Still’. I thought the two names complimented
one another while making beautiful music together. Giving
birth to... ‘Whittington Still’.
THE
ROCK: What was your motivation to get
into the
music business?
STILL: My motivation to
get into the music business
has everything to do with my purpose in life. When I’m
performing, there’s a feeling of being more alive
and
fulfilled than at any other time in my life. I love
music and I believe it is truly a part of my soul. A
friend recently shared an idea with me regarding our
true purpose. She told me that once you have found
something that you enjoy doing and it’s done almost
without any effort, you have found your true purpose.
That makes a lot of sense to me. I have multiple
talents and purposes. One of them includes being a
part of, and making a great impression on… the
music
business.
THE
ROCK: How do you classify your music?
STILL: My style of music
is R&B. However, I would
personally classify my music as soulful. Music for the
soul. It’s clean and classy. My music is entertaining
and my sultry yet subtle style is widely appreciated.
THE
ROCK: Who are your favorite artists and
why?
STILL: Some of my favorite
artist include but are not
limited to the great Angela Winbush, the late Phyllis
Hyman, the sassy Sade, the spunky Rachelle Ferrel, the
bold Lauren Hill and the artist formerly know as
Prince. These artists shine among my favorites because
of obvious reasons. Each one having the same dream and
determination to be great! And they truly are! Their
style and reputations define them as “legends.”
These
artists have and will continue to leave an everlasting
impression with me, while always presenting themselves
as true artists with class and eloquence. Never to be
forgotten!
THE
ROCK: Why do you believe entrepreneurship
to be so
important?
STILL: I believe entrepreneurship
is very important
because it willingly portrays an open door, often
leading to financial freedom, emotional stability and
a freedom of _expression. Allowing us the opportunity
to remove any and all limitations that we may or may
not have been accustomed to adhering to.
Entrepreneurship sends a certain message that shouts
“independent.” It also sets a strong example
for those
that are coming up after us, as they look, not only
for a path to follow but also for footprints before
them. “The world is yours when you’re an
entrepreneur.”
THE ROCK: What recording company
are you with?
STILL: I am currently an
independent artist working
with Sunshyn Productions Inc., a production company
that respects the independence of talent. My future
is
in good hands with the bright ideas of Sunshyn
Productions. My many talents will be allowed to shine
as they are introduced to the world from under the one
umbrella that the Sunshyn Family holds.

THE ROCK: What are some of
your future goals?
STILL: Some of my future
goals include;
Performing live in as many places that will have me.
Having my music internationally known and respected.
Becoming a successful author responsible for a few
“best sellers.”
I’m
looking forward to producing independent films
based on my best sellers. Starting a ‘Whittington
Still’ clothing line for young females. Creating
and distributing my ‘Princess’ fragrance
line. Enjoying all of the gratification that comes from
helping others to succeed. Never giving up!
THE
ROCK: What three words best describeWhittington
Still?
STILL: The three words
that I would use to best
describe myself are humble, pleasant, and determined.
THE ROCK: Where does Whittington
Still want to be five
years from now?
STILL: In five years, I
see myself continuing to work
at my future goals stated above. Operating Sunshyn
Productions Inc. in a highly professional manner.
Setting high expectations for myself, and the entire
Sunshyn family. In five years, I want to be well known
for my amazing creativity, loved for my desire to help
others and adored by my fans that I’ll so eagerly
keep
entertained.
THE
ROCK: Any new projects or events?
STILL: Yes. I am currently
working on the music and
completion of my first album. I’m taking my time
with
the album and the finished product will reflect such
that.
My
music will include the unique talents of the
youngest member of Sunshyn Productions Inc.,
Marselino. (www.marselino.com)
His
talents are too many to name but his style is welcomed,
and I greatly appreciate him and all that he brings
to the table. There are some performance dates that
are also to
appear on my website. http://www.whittingtonstill.com
Some
of these events are private functions but they will
be included
among the show dates. My first book “Sacrifices
of Love” will be completed and published in the
very near future. Some of what I believe to be my best
work is reflected through my Cafepress Shops. The shops
allow me to create a little something for everyone.
I am currently responsible for three Cafepress gift
shops with more to come. I am very pleased and excited
about the overall success of the Internet Store’s
concept. (www.cafepress.com/0617)
“I believe in high expectations and no limitations.”
THE
ROCK: Thank you Ms. Still, and best wishes.
STILL: Thank you for the
interview.
